WHO ARE YA? – NINETAILS
Each week, one of our contributors will recommend an artist/band they think deserves to be brought to your attention. No record labels, PR companies, bands or bands management will ever have made these recommendations. It is simply one music fan putting their taste on the line in the hope of sharing good music. The questions are intended to give just a basic introduction to possibly your new favourite artist/band. So without further ado, let’s crack on with this week’s introduction,... Read More

NEWS: HERMAN DUNE – NEW VIDEO FOR ‘BE A DOLL TAKE MY HEART’
Herman Dune have announced the second single from their latest album Strange Moosic. The French duo of David-Ivar Herman Dune and Cosmic Néman follow their first single ‘Tell Me Something I don’t Know’ with ‘Be A Doll and Take My Heart’, an upbeat pop ditty fuelled by acoustic guitars, David-Ivar’s distinctive vocals and fun-filled “oohs”. David-Ivar wrote this as a love song, despite the fact that he started writing it after reading... Read More
NEWS: MOON DUO – HORROR TOUR EP LTD ED 12” VINYL (LISTEN TO TITLE TRACK IN FULL)
For their loosely Halloween-themed EP ‘Horror Tour’, Moon Duo veer away from the sun-drenched tone of their recent LP ‘Mazes’, and towards driving themes from an antique book of spells they discovered at a library sale in rural New Hampshire. Three of the four tracks are instrumental – the titular ‘Horror Tour’ is the exception – and the record as a whole is characterized by long, meditative explorations that build to a slow burn. It will be released on limited... Read More
NEWS: THE VACCINES – ‘WETSUIT’ INSTAGRAM VIDEO
A few months ago The Vaccines asked their fans to help them make their next music video. All they had to do to participate was to tag their festival images on the photo sharing app Instagram with #vaccinesvideo and the best ones would be used to make the video. There was an overwhelming response. Nearly 3,000 images were submitted from over 30 countries, from Britain to Brazil to Japan to Australia. The best have been weaved together by director Poppy De Villeneuve to tell the... Read More
Album Review: Jeffrey Lewis – A Turn In The Dream Songs
The way Jeffrey Lewis churns out near identical album one after the other leaves little room for innovative description. Musically, A Turn In The Dream Songs is pretty much the same as ‘Ere Are I. But then, in a Dylan-esque way, the music is incidental to Lewis’ appeal. It is merely a vehicle for Lewis’ neurotic thought process to drive (and crash) in, and his skewed yet irresistable perspective on the world. Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads. The New Yorker... Read More
NEWS: DANNY DRIVE THRU – FREE DOWNLOAD ‘VIOLENCE MAKES’ NAIVE MACHINE REMIX
Danny Drive Thru, both DJ and Producer, has been having quite a busy 2011, with his music featuring on the Nihon Kizuna fundraiser compilation alongside the likes of Kode 9, Onra and Slugabed, as well as the recent Finest Ego collection of UK and Irish producers, which saw him in the company of such contemporaries in the beat scene as Flako, Kelpe, Om Unit and many more. He is topping it all off with this, his first solo release of original works, on the Mind On Fire imprint. Although... Read More
LIVE: BRETT ANDERSON – 11/10/2011
– CLUB ACADEMY, MANCHESTER – I’m not sure what to expect tonight as I follow the flow of thirty or forty-somethings down into the basement of the university. I’ve seen Brett Anderson peacock strutting across most of the stages on this university campus, but this is perhaps one of its more cramped gig spaces. The last of his gigs for me was the brilliant piano performance at the Royal Northern College of Music when Wilderness was released in 2008. But, then my... Read More
NEWS: FUJIYA & MIYAGI – NEW SINGLE & TEASER VIDEO
Following their critically acclaimed long player ‘Ventriloquizzing’ released in January this year, Brighton electronic pop band Fujiya & Miyagi are set to release a brand new single ‘Ecstatic Dancer’. The track will be available on the 24th October through Full Time Hobby. Although not originally included on the album, ‘Ecstatic Dancer’ is very much a continuation of it, as singer/guitarist David Best explains: “Ecstatic Dancer was written and produced... Read More
LIVE: TUSK FESTIVAL – 7-9/10/2011
– THE CLUNY/THE STAR & SHADOW CINEMA, NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE – This is my first review since June so forgive me if it is even worse than my previous efforts. Having missed some great gigs this summer / autumn (in particular Moon Wiring Club at the Dog and Partridge in Bolton) I have launched myself back in to the world of live music with a naughty weekend away in Newcastle. The Tusk Festival is not to be missed – it’s a festival of the unclassifiable, the obscure... Read More
