Album Review: False Advertising – False Advertising
Grunge is making a bit of a comeback isn’t it. False Advertising are leading the charge for Manchester, making waves locally with their satisfyingly sweet single ‘I Don’t Know’, with its twisting verse riff and power pop chorus. The thing is, it doesn’t turn up until about halfway through their self titled debut album. It sticks out as well, a few too many of the tracks here being chunky, chugging riffs and shared vocals between vocalists Jen Hingley... Read More

LIVE: FUZZ – 01/09/2015
Photo: Peter Rea – GORILLA, MANCHESTER – Ty Segall’s drum kit, Chad Ubovich’s Bass and Charles Moothart’s guitar simultaneously explode into life, igniting a feisty crowd who are chomping at the bit. Like rabid dogs who had finally broken free from their leads, a wave of enthusiastic teens surge forward and drag each other about during the first few chords, causing me to retreat in fear for my camera’s safety. By song 3, a third of the crowd have... Read More

My heroic manager lets me off and I practically jump from my office into the Soup Kitchen, just in time for band one. Tonight is part of a series of shows put together by the good people... Read More

OCTOBER 2014
We have trawled through the forthcoming gigs in and around Manchester so you don’t have to. We believe that if we are going to recommend a gig to you, then it should be exactly that, a recommendation. There are many other sites out here on the internet that have a gig guide, but how many of them can say they have actually listened to every single band/act listed? Well to be honest we don’t know the answer to that, but we’d guess not many, if any at all. Anyway, this is exactly... Read More
LIVE: THE HORRORS – 27/09/2014
– THE ALBERT HALL, MANCHESTER – A strange conflict lies at the heart of The Horrors. There’s no question that in their best moments they have an urgency and intensity that few of their contemporaries can match. But when that white heat is not apparent – and for nearly an hour tonight it wasn’t – what remains has the ring of inauthenticity about it. From the very outset, The Horrors had a whiff of novelty about them. Of course, many bands can be accused of relying... Read More
