The Silent Radio Show 03/09/2016
Another fun filled show of music and also some terrible puns, of which we apologise, although if you listen to the show, apologising is something presenter Simon wasn’t meant to do. This is our weekly audible version of the North’s best independent music website, SilentRadio.co.uk. The Silent Radio Show – live every Saturday afternoon 3-5 on Fab Radio International. TRACK LISTING Pinegrove – Old Friends / Pixies – Um Chagga Lagga / Ultimate... Read More
LIVE: MARGO PRICE – 30/08/2016
Margo Price – THE DEAF INSTITUTE, MANCHESTER – Margo Price was born into a life on a corn-and-soybean farm in Buffalo Prairie, a place name so Northern American that it almost must be fictional, as if Price is a character in a movie about an up-and-coming rockabilly star. Her life-so-far story truly has taken on cinema-worthy credentials from her family losing the farm circa 1985 through to last year’s uplifting end-of-the-beginning breakthrough: a record deal. Inspired... Read More

In the words of Bayonne himself “‘Appeals‘... Read More

Album Review: Crystal Castles – Amnesty (I)
Crystal Castles – Amnesty (I) Undoubtedly, Alice Glass was integral to Crystal Castles’ foundation and rise. Her visceral, secretly-recorded vocals on glitchy debut single ‘Alice Practice’ saw record deals come pouring in, and she made a mesmerising front woman, as unrestrained live as she was difficult and impenetrable in interview. But when she announced her departure in October 2014 and Ethan Kath forged on regardless, it was hard to imagine this having any impact... Read More
Album Review: Kodiak Deathbeds – Kodiak Deathbeds
I just wanna point out straight away, this music isn’t my cup of tea at all. However, I do respect its beauty and inoffensive nature, which you can’t really say a bad word about…well, except “bored shitless” maybe. Track 1, ‘Never Change’, is just a little dull to be honest. Dreary. Trying to find the right balance between the sweet and the sour, a bitter sweetness that isn’t really achieved. I enjoy the double-tracked vocals on the second half of the song,... Read More
Album Review: Downpilot – Radio Ghost
Right from kick off with the track ‘Radio Ghost’, Downpilot instantly remind me of so many other artists. The vocals are like a strange mix of Michael Stipe and Thom Yorke, and the music itself has that sort of R.E.M./Radiohead melancholy sound which I like a great deal. The sense of sadness in the guitar, the slower pacing and the slightly ambiguous nature of the lyrics all fit into that haunting 90s slow grind style. In a word: moody as fuck. Many of the songs here... Read More
LIVE: LIVERPOOL PSYCH FEST – 25+26/09/2015
Jacco Gardner – CAMP & FURNACE, LIVERPOOL – After very much enjoying a number of smaller Psych Fest’s in Manchester, the idea of taking it to another level seemed a logical step. Just an hour’s train ride away, over 75 acts have congregated in this annual celebration of ‘music of drug-induced origin’. The truly international line-up is brimming with exciting new bands and old favourites that are all perfectly capable of stimulating your mind’s eye. They’re... Read More
OCTOBER 2015
FREE GIG GUIDE ANDROID APP HERE We have trawled through the forthcoming gigs in and around Manchester so you don’t have to. We believe that if we are going to recommend a gig to you, then it should be exactly that, a recommendation. There are many other sites out here on the internet that have a gig guide, but how many of them can say they have actually listened to every single band/act listed? Well to be honest we don’t know the answer to that, but we’d guess not many,... Read More
LIVE: SUMMER CAMP – 28/09/2015
Summer Camp – NIGHT & DAY CAFE, MANCHESTER – It’s a cold September night. I arrive at my destination, squeezing past two chaps busking quite literally on the door step of The Night & Day Café. It’s one way to get yourself on the bill I suppose. ‘You must be freezing,’ I say. ‘You must be mad,’ they say. Thus ends that little interaction and I find myself already at the bar catching the very last song of Willie Healey’s set. He’s a tall, slight... Read More
