Calvadore

Calvadore at Aatma, 16 December

Manchester four piece Calvadore are doing something a little different – something that caught our eyes over here at Silent Radio.
A gig swap with The Hungry Ghosts from Birmingham, Calvadore and their brummy mates will duke it out and take turns headlining in their hometowns. That bring Calvadore’s first headline show at the Aatma venue in the Northern Quarter on 16 December, and The Hungry Ghosts to headline and host away team Calvadore as supporting band the following Tuesday 20 December at The Sunflower Lounge in Birmingham.

We caught a whiff of Calvadore on Hide and Psych, the sold out Cassette Store Day compilation from Blak Hand Records. They covered The Sweet’s ‘Ballroom Blitz’ and gave us their first original track, the melodic and dangerously catchy ‘I Don’t Mind’.  Members of Turf, Antelopes and Proto Idiot, Calvadore have come together to bring us soft rock to make your sausage pop, as they’ve put it.
As well as playing a few of their delectable and carefully selected covers, the band will be joined on stage for a number of songs by local writer Al Keogh.
Sounds like a cool idea, and hell if we had to pick a side over whose gig is better, Mancs always win.

Why Fox, Why? will join the bands at Aatma on 16 December.
