We’re a curious bunch here at Silent Radio and decided it was time to start scratching that itch, so we asked Snake Eyes guitarist and vocalist Jim Heffy what his favourite piece of music making equipment is. This is what he told us:

What is it?
It’s the Boss FB-2, a feedbacker/booster pedal.

Jim Heffy of Snake Eyes

How long have you had it?
Maybe the best part of a year? Did a little swap for a distortion pedal with a mate. Wanted something I could make a bunch of horrible noise with and the FB-2 hit the nail on the head.

How does it help shape your sound?
I wanted to make sure that the band wasn’t too polished, so cymbals had to be loud and crashy and guitars needed to be scuzzy and noisy. This pedal definitely helps!

Do you use it live?
I do use it live and take it with me everywhere I go. It’s great for tying songs together and keeping momentum up throughout the set.

Do you use it in the studio?
When you’re in the studio, there’s time to experiment with making sick feedback. I picked this pedal up after we’d finished the record to make sure I could pull it off live without having to move from the mic and miss my vocal cues.

What can we hear it used on?
When we are able to get out and play shows again, you will absolutely hear it then. We recently played a show (via the internet) with our mates in Crashface. You can hear it there too (watch again via their Facebook page).

Is there anything you dislike about it or would like to change?
When you take your foot off the pedal, the feedback doesn’t stop dead which is how I’d prefer it worked but hey, I can live with that.

If the worst happened and it broke down, could you replace it?
I’ve heard that the pedal is discontinued so in short, no. I’m sure I could find something that did the same sort of job but it’s simple and so am I so it was meant to be.

Anything else you’d like to tell the world about it?
It’s silver and sparkly and everyone likes a pretty pedal. Can’t get hold of them brand new either so think I’ll be holding on to it.

Any honourable mentions of other items that didn’t make the top spot?
I use a RAT which is great and I’m currently using a Vox AC30S1 which I really love the sound of. All very simple bits of gear but it works for me.
