The Wave Pictures have shared the new single taken from their forthcoming album, Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon.

I Could Hear the Telephone (3 Floors Above Me) will be released on February 9, the week before the release of the album on Moshi Moshi.

The band, comprised of Jonny Helm, Dave Tattersall and Franic Rozycki, collaborated on the album with Billy Childish, and recorded all of the songs using his 60s amp, drums and rocket-ship shaped guitars.

The single features backing vocals from Juju Claudis, which Tattersall says was integral to its sound.

He explained: “Billy (Childish), often against the judgement of everyone else in the room, took the time to work out backing vocal parts for Juju, which brought another dimension to the songs. It’s hard to imagine this song without Juju’s vocal line on it.”

The band will embark on a lengthy tour to mark the release of the album next month, including a date at the Deaf Institute in Manchester.
