This Is The Kit have just shared their video for “Cold and Got Colder,” a stand out track from Bashed Out, conceived and directed by This Is the Kit’s main mover and shaker Kate Stables.

Kate says of the video in which she carries a canoe over land, Fitzcarraldo-style:

“Often in life we’re struck by the struggle. Our own struggles and also witnessing the struggles of others. Making this video was kind of a performance/personal process/nod to anyone who has ever had to carry a canoe across land and through the amazon jungle, literally or metaphorically. The song itself is about the toll that gets taken on someone whose life and work takes them away from home/family and then throws them back again and then tugs them away again and throws them a few canoes to carry in with the bargain. Sometimes we need a rest and a swim.”

Bashed Out, produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner and released on his Brassland label, was acclaimed critically and quickly seen as a breakthrough record. It’s been a triumphant twelve months for This Is The Kit, with the album picked as Guy Garvey’s Album of The Year for 2015 on BBC 6 Music, and packed out performances across the country including a headline show at the Scala and playing at the 6 Music Festival.
