Each week, one of our contributors will recommend an artist/band they think deserves to be brought to your attention. No record labels, PR companies, bands or bands management will ever have made these recommendations. It is simply one music fan putting their taste on the line in the hope of sharing good music. The questions are intended to give just a basic introduction to possibly your new favourite artist/band.

So without further ado, let’s crack on with this week’s introduction, in which Silent Radio’s Peter Rea recommends Cyril Snear for your audible delectation.

*******

Who are ya?

Cyril Snear. We consist of, Nick Roe – Drums and sings backing vocals. Tully plays Bass. Dann plays Baritone guitar. Mike McKnight plays guitar and sings.

Where are you from?

We all live in and around Manchester. Dann, Nick & Mike are all originally from Wales. Tully is a born and bred Manc.

How long have you been doing what you’re doing now?

Cyril Snear has existed for around 6 years. Started as a bit of a joke project by Mike and former bass player Ste Layfield. Snear started taking it a bit more seriously about 3 years ago. Since then we have released our debut album ‘Fluent In Seven Types Of Monotone’ and an EP last year ‘Four In Hand – One In Face’.

This year will see the release of our second full length studio album. Recorded at Blueprint studios in Manchester… Ladies and gentleman we give you ‘The Riot Of Colour’.

Is being a musician your full time job? If not, what is?

Prosthetic Limbs, Cancer Treatment & Coffee.

Seriously!

How would you explain your sound to someone’s 90 year old grandmother?

Like Cliff Richard on acid.

Are there any obvious influences in your music?

Hmmm probably, diverse sound. Many influences…’’like a battle scarred Radiohead”

Each other. The need, the want for quiet loud distortion and delay! Current affairs. Past affairs. Future affairs. Each other.

Are there any not so obvious influences in your music?

 Our fragile state of minds.

Best place for people to find out what you are up to?

Facebook. Soundcloud. Bandcamp. Twitter. Pressonpr. Youtube.
