LIVE: FRANK TURNER & THE SLEEPING SOULS / ARKELLS / THE HOMELESS GOSPEL CHOIR – 13/04/2018

-ACADEMY, MANCHESTER- Frank will always be one of my favourites so heading down to Manchester Academy on Friday night it feels like I’m coming home, and I bounce in to the delightful sounds of The Homeless Gospel Choir, much to my ear’s delight. The ironic satire of Derek Zanetti is reminiscent of early Tenacious D, […]
-ACADEMY, MANCHESTER- I’m not going to lie, dear Reader, I am totally still hungover from what can only be described as ‘a quite large session’ on Saturday and the last thing I want to do is drag myself off the couch and trek to the Academy to see Phoenix. And I love Phoenix. Like, full […]

LIVE: THE FRATELLIS / BLACK PISTOL FIRE – 23/03/2018

-ACADEMY, MANCHESTER- The Great Glaswegians are back on tour after releasing their fifth album In Your Own Sweet Time last week. With the album reaching the UK Number 5 spot in the Official Charts, it has become a very exciting and highly anticipated time for the band. Tonight, they have the job of getting a packed […]
– ACADEMY, MANCHESTER – “C’mon, pretend we’re from Wakefield” implores Thom Edward, God Damn‘s persuasive frontman, referencing the hometown of tonight’s headliners to the thin early evening throng, who despite their modest numbers, are entirely in his thrall. He and his two bandmates are full-blooded performers, infected with limitless gusto, but the music is perfunctory. […]

JAMES BLAKE ANNOUNCES HEADLINE TOUR

LIVE: WOLF ALICE / SWIM DEEP – 10/03/2016

– ACADEMY 1, MANCHESTER – Walking into the Manchester Academy I’m pleasantly surprised with how small and intimate the venue is; it’s large enough to feel like a big crowd is present (which there most definitely is) and yet small enough to feel like it’s a private party. Sneaking a quick look at the band […]
– ACADEMY 1, MANCHESTER – To me, certain bands remind me of certain seasons and Autumn is definitely the season I listen to Death Cab For Cutie. Maybe it’s the autumnal scene on the front cover of their 2005 album Plans that links this idea but I think there’s just something very warming about their […]
