One of the biggest bugbears of 21st century gig going is all the adds-on to the supposed ticket price. Generally, the larger the event, the greater the booking fee and sometimes other charges that are initially hidden. It is rare to find an occasion where the extra charge is not at least 10% of the advertised cost. What might be less known is that a commission is also being taken from the promoter which means they will almost certainly be increasing the face value of their tickets accordingly.

A new organisation, tickts, has been formed which are aiming to change that situation. They promise zero fees for fans and no commission to be taken from promoters. As ticketing companies have to meet their costs, the question would be how tickts meets its costs. The model they have created envisages the following income streams:

  • Optional paid plans for larger organisations
  • Sponsorship and ad placement
  • A 5% service fee on fan-to-fan resale

Currently, there are only a handful of forthcoming events that they are servicing in north-west England. Hopefully, that will change in the coming months as anything that reduces the rip-offs that customers face must be good news.
