Rock influences ripple throughout the album by Scottish band Tide Lines, and the band write songs which resonate on such a high level, tracks that are memorable and evocative. From the start to the conclusion of their record Glasgow Love Story, the act generates an emotional twist, evolving with every earnest touch, and every beating sound. It is not an easy ride either, as sometimes the emotions boil over, and the band know they are bound in beauty and hurt.
Glasgow Love Story becomes a literal dream as the songs flow seamlessly, and the sound quality is pristine, and these musicians play hard and fast at moments, and then everything cools down, making for a soothing experience. With these tracks, Tide Lines bloom into a band to consider not only for their adeptness, but for their musicianship and their character.
Scotland is championed, Glasgow is a beating heart, and the band break conventions and they go against the status quo, proving their intelligence isn’t limited. And as the music grips, as the sonic brilliance flourishes, this outfit stand against the tide, and they embark on a journey of self-reflection.
Melodies are apparent everywhere; lyrical strands evoke, and the words edge in with the symphonic artistry, and Tide Lines aren’t a bog-standard indie band with a hard-boiled exterior, they are true artists and lyricists, creating dreams and desire. True music must have meaning, and this record has it in droves, beating like a heart on overdrive.
Better Days begins the record. It is melodic and pulls from many aspects, many sonic parts. The acoustic sound drives the track forward, and the lyrics depict the craving for better times. The world is in transition, and Tide Lines know everything may go to the dogs soon.
Glasgow Love Story is another dreamy track featuring an acoustic sound which doesn’t become bloated or overblown. It comes in and catches the attention, and the band describe youthful days when everything seemed to be easy. The instrumentals start to lift, and they create a pulsating sound.
If I Had My Time is a masterclass in songwriting. The chord progression is simple but effective too. The story forms in this ballad, and it’s atmospheric, putting a grand stamp on melody.
Leaving Town has a wonderful beat. The vocals here demonstrate range and intricate tones, leaving a lasting impression. From the start the atmosphere blossoms, breaking into the song’s interesting core. Dreams and desires are chased, hope elevates, and love imprints.
Tide Lines push themselves musically and lyrically, opting for a sound which does provoke feelings and emotions. Glasgow Love Story is not generic; it is beautiful and purposeful.
