We’re thrilled to be back at the brilliant Louder Than Words Literary Festival! Silent Radio’s New Releases Ed, Paula Farr, will be one of the panellists for an in-depth discussion about music writing – how to get into it, the importance of independent music sites and publications, the highlights and pitfalls we’ve encountered along the way, plus why it’s worth considering for any music fan.

Also on the panel are author Lucy Robinson who has written books on Skunk Anansie, Madonna and Dusty Springfield, as well as the study of women in music ‘She Bop’, editor of the fabulous New Sounds music magazine, Jimmy McCormac, and Music Journalism student Lucas Allburn currently studying at Chester Uni, on the music journalism course ran by the host of proceedings Dr Simon Morrison – author and music journalist who has written books on Pink Floyd, dance culture and more.

Louder Than Words Writing Panel – How to make your way backstage into the magical world of music writing: Sat 12th November 2022 10.40am – 11.45am

From the early days of creating handmade zines, in a DIY paper and glue style, interviewing bands around town, then pestering Piccadilly Records to sell them, to writing for various independent mags such as Chimp and Ablaze, writing about the music I love is still a great passion. After testing the music industry waters in London with stints at various labels, being back in my hometown again, writing about this city’s vibrant music scene is as exciting as ever. All time favourite bands include Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, Patti Smith although anything from electro to folk via blues and pysch rock will also do nicely too. A great album, is simply a great album, regardless of whatever musical cage you put it in.
