The Silent Radio Show 24/09/2016 with Cowtown
Another instalment of The Silent Radio Show brings yet more great music from the acts playing Manchester this week and some new releases making the Silent Radio website. How could we not have asked the wonderful Leeds trio Cowtown to join us in the studio while they were in town. So we did just that. Even though Hilary, Dave and Nash were almost at the end of an extensive run of tour dates they were still as bright as the proverbial buttons. Over ten years together and still... Read More

The Hornblower Brothers In March of 2010 Silent Radio editor Simon closed a gig review of The Hornblower Brothers with… “I’m now left counting the days to their next Manchester visit”, suffice to say, those days turned into years, and six and a half of them later, he’s still waiting. So who is this band that he’s been so keen to see back together? The Hornblower Brothers were formed back in 2008 by high school friends Nat and Al. They left their native Halifax, West... Read More
LIVE: GUADALUPE PLATA – 15/09/2016
Guadalupe Plata – THE CASTLE HOTEL, MANCHESTER –I’m surrounded by lots of exceptionally tall men. A mix of the Irish. And a spattering of Spanish. I wonder if the Spanish and Irish have a general population filled with extremely tall people. It’s making it extremely difficult to see, anything. I couldn’t particularly tell you then exactly what the bands look like, but from Northern Irish support, The Bonnevilles, to the Spanish contingent, Guadalupe Plata,... Read More

ALBUM REVIEW: GOD DAMN – EVERYTHING EVER
God Damn – Everything Ever Last year I was lucky enough to see the Foo Fighters perform in Manchester’s Old Trafford cricket stadium. As the venue filled in the few hours before the main event, 2 young, long haired guys walked confidently onto stage and began playing; one on drums, one on guitar and vocals. The music was unapologetic, hard hitting, heavy rock music. The hair was thrown back and forth and guitars were broken. What a way to start the show. The band was called... Read More

The brand new event taking place in Manchester has had to change its name with less than two weeks to go. The original name ‘JD Presents: The Brit Project’ was objected to by The BRIT Awards. This also included advertising, ticketing, social media, websites, email addresses, venue signage,... Read More
LIVE: FESTIVAL NO. 6
THE ULTIMATE MIDDLECLASS FUCKFEST Arriving on a gloomy Friday morning in the land of dragons, sheep and people who hiss, Festival No. 6 instantly comes across as the sort of festival I shouldn’t be at. The quirky signs welcome you in as the weight of 20 cans teases a crippling crush on my struggling wrists, they immediately put me in a bad mood. Why do this? Why taunt me with lines borrowed from The Prisoner? Its themes further impacting the idea of being trapped and stuck in... Read More
